| Studio Ghibli has announced that its co-founder, animator Hayao Miyazaki, is retiring from making feature films. Probably best known in the United States for Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, Miyazaki has made some of the most beautifully-crafted animated films in Japan or any other country. The studio spokesman only said that Miyazaki will be retiring from feature films, so it is possible that he will continue to work on shorter ones, and probable that he will continue to have a hand in the studio. I have a brief overview of his remarkable career here: Anime News: Hayao Miyazaki | |

| Great article there, Kurt!
I've only seen My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service, but they are among my favorite movies. I'll have to see more of them someday.

| Seconded Peter's comment. The only Miyazaki films I've seen are Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and Valley of the Wind when they made it to American basic cable TV, but they were reveletory in a 'wow, look what the Japanese are doing in animation' kind of way. | |

| The first anime i ever saw in the theater was Princess Mononoke (1997)
I've seen it again and again it's so beautiful. i've seen most of his films at least once, just a couple left.
