| As some of you who have seen my webcomic might have guessed, I'm a fan of Doc Savage and of 1930s-Era adventure. So I have to admit I'm interested by the news this week that Sony is going to produce a big budget movie based on the Man of Bronze, and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black will be making it. I haven't seen IM3 or any of Black's other films, but I've heard good things about him as a screenwriter and a director, and he seems to have a deep interest in the character. My bid concern is, will they try to make Doc dark and edgy and cynical? We live in an era, after all, where they won't let Superman wear primary colors in the movies because they think superheroes need to look like Batman. Will this be a flop, like the Alec Baldwin version of The Shadow? (which I enjoyed, if relatively few other people did). Half my brain says, "Whatever they do, it can't be any worse than the farce George Pal made in the '70s"; but the other half says "What if Black turns into Joel Schumacher and gives Doc a bulletproof vest with rubber nipples...?" Iron Man 3's Shane Black gets go-ahead for Doc Savage adaptation | |

| I'm cautiously pessimistic. Which I guess means I'm afraid it will be just another Shadow, Rocketeer or John Carter. Good enough but nobody cares. But I can't think about that now, currently I'm worried about the upcoming Lone Ranger film. | |

| Great news! I too loved the Shadow movie, I thought it was very well done, just like the Rocketeer, both great movies that just didn't do great in theaters for some reason, but are both very enjoyable, (and must still sell on dvd, I always see them on the shelves if that means anything). Also worried about the Lone Ranger film, looks like a great deal of trains blowing up and flying into nice shards of crap all over the place for everyone wearing 3-d glasses. Any news on whether it'll be a period piece or modernized? | |
