Legolas says girls were more important than reading?

Orlando Bloom was on a chat show promoting the next Hobbit movie and admitted not finishing reading the LOTR books, which in and of itself is no crime, it's not for everyone, no book is, but he claims it's because “Girls were far more important.”

Is he claiming it was an choice for him, reading or dating? I wasn't aware the things were mutually exclusive. I wonder if he went with walking over chewing gum, or rubbing bellies over patting heads?

He might just be saying if you finished LOTR, you had a lot of free time? Plus, it's easy to make fun of a cliche.
