| Here's Mine
First 2 Superman and Batman. Can't get much bigger than these two. Instantly recognizable and easily the two greatest characters ever created.
Third Spider-Man. If Supes and Bats were the greatest characters from the Golden Age, Spider-Man is the greatest (of the tail end) of the Silver Age.
Fourth The final slot is a little harder to nail down since i think there are so many deserving of the notoriety, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Fantastic Four (The Thing as a representative) Thor, Captain America, The X-Men (Wolverine) but, after thinking it through, im going with The Hulk. I think he epitomizes the Marvel "tragic hero" archetype.

| Hmm, interesting idea. If we are deciding on the basis of who I would want to have carved into a mountainside, then i would say:
Batman
R.Crumb's self-portrait
Vladek Spiegelman from MAUS
and Madman by Mike Allred. Or maybe Cerebus. Or maybe Hellboy. Somebody to represent the whole indy comics movement from the 1980's to today.
It's tough to narrow it down that far! Any truly representative selection would have dozens, even hundreds of characters! And that's just the US/North American characters. Expand it to the rest of the world, and you'd need a whole mountain range.

| I guess mine would pretty much the same as Erick's. Superman, Batman, Spidey and...uh...someone! Wonderwoman? I don't know. I rather like Peter's idea of having an indy creation up there. My personal choice would probably be Jesse Custer, or maybe Spider Jerusalem just for kicks. If it could be a real person then the fourth would be Stan Lee, no one in existence says "Prolific Comic Book Personality" to me like Stan The Man. | |

it's an interesting idea bringing in a real person, but then why not have a separate Mount Rushmore for comic book creators? Jack Kirby and Stan Lee are locks. I would like to include Shuster and Siegel but all they did was create Superman, sure some would say that's enough but Lee and Kirby created a whole universe so I wouldn't include them, sorry guys. Same goes for Bob Kane and Bill Finger. So my third choice is Will Eisner, who showed us what "graphic novels" are all about. Lastly, I wanted to include another writer to even things out, names like Claremont, Gaiman, Moore, Morrison all came to mind, but in the end I opted for the double threat....Frank Miller. Dont let his latest works blur your view of his legacy.

| You could do one 1:1 scale with Galactus, Modok, The Watcher and a Sentinel | |

Or Hank Pym! But then if the sculptor misunderstood, it might end up really really small.

| I would like to see a Mount Rushmore with all the best Marvel helmets in a row, like Galactus obviously, Loki with those crazy big horns, and old Ant Man with the big round helmet and Havoc, the old one with the three giant bands around his head.

| Thanks Peter, it's a nice place you guys have here.
I found the avatar on Google.
My first thought was a Ditko mount Rushmore would be fun too, I thought Spider-man, Doc Strange, The Question and the Creeper. But it wasn't as cool as the helmets

| Ditko is awesome! You can sometimes tell by the number of lines he uses in a drawing which of the six decades he's worked in that the drawing comes from, but they are all quintessentially Ditko. Ditko Fan, I'm gonna guess your avatar is from his Mysterious Traveler period, am I way off? I planned to make my case for Herbie Popnecker, easily the greatest hero of time and space in any universe adorning Mount Rushmore, but it turns out he's already there... http://blogs.citypages.com/amadzine/herbie4.jpg | |

| It may be from Mysterious Traveller, I thought it might be from one of theCharlton books, but my gut tells me it's from Dr. Strange. | |

| I guess I got a little obsessed trying to find the origin of your avatar, DF, or else I just have too much time on my hands. Anyway, I spent about an hour and a half looking, but finally came up empty. I've got the b&w Marvel Essentials Dr. Strange, so I checked that first, then a b&w reprint collection of the Tales of the Mysterious Traveler. No luck with either, likewise with the handful of reprint Charltons I have and a bunch of the old Marvel reprints 'Where Monsters Dwell', Fantasy Masterpieces, ect. that had lots of Ditko short features. I did say that I became a little obsessed, didn't I? On the plus side, seeing all those strange Ditko characters one after another is really kind of trippy So, no luck, but I think you're on the right track with an early Charlton probably being its source and it is a thing of beauty! | |

| I think there is no such thing as a little obsessed. But we are all a little obsessed to be here. Any excuse to go through some old comics is not time misspent. I did a google search to find out where I found the art in the first place and it was just a blog preview/reviewing the Marvel Hardcover Ditko book, the art wasn't necessarily from those books. So no help there. | |
