PostSubject: For Kim Thompson (1956-2013) RIP   Wed Jun 19, 2013 9:47 pm

A long long time ago, I can still remember how my comics always made me smile
One day I was at the store and wanted to buy a little more
So maybe I could read for a longer while
Now comics news is full of sloth but here's Neil Gaiman and Gary Groth
They didn't smooch like lovers
I thought I'd read another
I can't remember where I sat when I found out Marvel's not all that
But I understood what they begat before the Journal died

So buy buy Fantagraphics supply
It's not a joke, they're going broke so don't keep it on the sly
No backing like DC or Eastman's pie-in-the-sky
So we're gonna give it a try
So we're gonna give it a try

Did you read the Book of Jim or get insulted by a guy named Kim
For buying stuff because it's hot
Do you want to read some Alex Toth or Naughty Bits, why not get both
And see what else they got
So look for books you want the most
And sneak a peek at Eros
How much will you spend?
You might not see them again
Wow Peepshow costs a couple bucks, if I can't find Seth that would suck
So I figure what the fuck before the Journal dies

I started singing
Buy buy Fantagraphics supply
It's not a joke, they're going broke so don't keep it on the sly
No backing like DC or Eastman's pie-in-the-sky
So we're gonna give it a try
So we're gonna give it a try

Now for ten years I've picked up a lot but there's still so much I haven't got
What else is there left to see?
Ho Che Anderson did King part 2, now part 3's out, it's still brand new
He was treated respectfully
You see while the King was losing heart
Cause Marvel wouldn't return his art
We all attached our name
To give that company shame
And better companies took the field, the Majors then began to yield
Look at all the better deals before the Journal died

They were singing
Buy buy Fantagraphics supply
It's not a joke, they're going broke so don't keep it on the sly
No backing like DC or Eastman's pie-in-the-sky
So we're gonna give it a try
So we're gonna give it a try

Neuter Shooter for acting like a looter, Tijuana Bibles are cute, Birdland is cuter
Robert Crumb likes chicks with ass
And Sacco went to Palestine, Usagi Jimbo sure looks fine
So much gold left to be mined
Well I know you want some Dirty Plotte
Because like Dan Pussey it gets you hot
It's what you're thinking of
And you dig those Rockets and Love
I took a look at Louis Riel, 3 bucks a piece, that's quite a steal
Magic Whistle, what a deal, don't let the Journal die

Are you singing
Buy buy Fantagraphics supply
It's not a joke, they're going broke so don't keep it on the sly
No backing like DC or Eastman's pie-in-the-sky
So we're gonna give it a try
So we're gonna give it a try

And we were wrestling over "Frank", spent all my money in the bank
Cause I might not have the chance again
So buy Essential Spidey, buy Jack B. Quick
But don't get Youngblood it'll make you sick
Because Artbabe is a Dorks only friend
Ha, I had to prove my age before I could look at Betty Page
And that isn't all
They also have Ted Rall
Operators stand by through the night to help alleviate the plight
Could it be Dave Sim was right because the Journal died?

We were singing
Buy buy Fantagraphics supply
It's not a joke, they're going broke so don't keep it on the sly
No backing like DC or Eastman's pie-in-the-sky
So we're gonna give it a try
So we're gonna give it a try

My superheroes were getting vicious, and I thought they were meretricious
I just shook my head and looked away
I went down to the comics store where I'd found the Journal years before
But the owner had closed the doors and went away
On the comics page, Dilbert ruled
The Ultimates had people fooled
The Acme Library folded
And Buddy Bradley sold it
I looked at the comics mags, where's Segar? Kelly? Peter Bagge?
The stuff that's left is such a drag because the Journal died

And so we're singing
Buy buy Fantagraphics supply
It's not a joke, they're going broke so don't keep it on the sly
No backing like DC or Eastman's pie-in-the-sky
So we're gonna give it a try
So we're gonna give it a try

We're all singing
Buy buy Fantagraphics supply
It's not a joke, they're going broke so don't keep it on the sly
No backing like DC or Eastman's pie-in-the-sky
So we're gonna give it a try

That was beautiful, Chris.  Thanks!

Crying many tears over the loss of Kim Thompson, taken from us far too young.  He accomplished an amazing amount and made the world a better place by being a decent man.
