| I'm all fired up today... Comics writer quit because DC asked him to kill off... http://www.blastr.com/2013-3-21/comics-writer-quit-because-dc-asked-him-kill-redactedThe thing that struck me here was this was all after Dan DiDio reportedly promised creators at a DC summit last month that there would be no more wholesale last minute editorial revisions. An apparent huge bone of contention with several creators, leaving their respective DC books, at least in part anyway. Looks to be like that hasn't really changed at all. | |

| You're bringing in ALL the news that's fit to print today, DitkoFan! Fialkov seems like the kind of writer who cares that his readership thinks well of him. I guess that's 99% of writers. But you can just imagine the hate mail/posts/tweets aimed at him if he had killed off DC's preeminent black character? No matter that he would've done it by editorial command. No idea what's wrong with DC the last decade or so, whatever it is, they seem to have an even worse case of it than Marvel. | |

| Killing off characters, hmph.
1) It's a cheap ploy to boost sales. 2) They always come back anyway, so it's a fraud. 3) It's been done before.
You know, in a contained story like a novel or a movie, a death can be an effective part of that story, shocking, heartstrings-tugging, whatever. But in comics' endless serial storytelling, we are going to want to see these characters again someday. It's not worth it to break all the toys in the toybox, just because you get a temporary rush out of it.

| Seems like Green Lantern John Stewart will live (for now!), but the DC publicity machine is saying that his demise was never even contemplated at all, and they wouldn't lie to us, would they? http://comicsbeat.com/its-official-john-stewart-is-going-to-live/ The accompanying illustration to the article with its broken Ion/Kyle Rayner mask seems to indicate that the outlook may not be too rosy for another Green Lantern. I don't want to start rumors, just speculations, but how lame would that be that when faced with a public outcry over one character's potential death, the DC editors only thought is ' Well, somebody's gotta die, right? So, just pick another GL.' | |

| I know Josh Fialkov personally, sat with him at a con, and I can tell you that while he might be fulla shit about some things, I'd believe him on this fully. | |

I wrote an article a while ago for a geek website which discussed much the same points you bring up. Personally I *love* a character coming back from the dead...just not when it's Marvel or DC doing the resurrecting. Death of characters from both companies has been a bad joke for a long time. In creator owned books where the status quo is far more malleable it can be make for some great stories. The sad part is there are plenty of great ways to tell a dramatic, shocking story without having to kill of your lead character(s), but neither Marvel or DC seem to appreciate this.
