WTF: an apology Empty
PostSubject: WTF: an apology   WTF: an apology Icon_minitimeTue Jan 15, 2013 3:04 pm

affraid affraid affraid

I just sent out a "Year End" newsletter, with a few notes of thanks and links to our top five Blog posts (by pageviews). Several people on the mailing list had asked to be kept in the loop, but didn't apparently want to take the steps involved to following us on twitter or subscribing to the blog itself, for whatever reason, so I thought an annual mini-newsletter would be one way to do so.

But one fella, despite having NEVER replied to any previous emails in any negative manner, let alone NEVER asking to be taken off our mailing list, decided this newsletter was a heinous crime. He responded by both sending several angry complaints and then unsubscribed by clicking on "reply all." Going as far as threatening to sue the site and even further harass the people on the mailing list.

For anyone who was annoyed in any way by this guy, I apologize. My wife has since explained to me what a "blind copy" is and any future mass emails will be sent that way. My mistake, I'm still new at some of this.

Also, I have removed the guy from the list as requested. As I have for anyone else who has asked. The guy was someone I have had several positive interactions with in the past on other sites and thought might be interested in our little community. An illustrator who was pleasant enough, but obviously must be having a tough time of things if he's so easily enraged. I'm shocked the guy would get so angry at an anonymous newsletter, not knowing or even guessing it was sent to him by a business acquaintance, someone he had actively pursued on a high profile business networking site. I deleted his connection there as well.

Again sorry if this bugged anyone, or if the guy takes any further steps to annoy anyone on the mailing list.

Wow.. I had no clue that happened?!

I like the newsletter idea!

I've paid 7 bucks into this site dammit, and I demand to be kept aprise of what happens!

Even if I can't post as much as I used too!

btw..I want a thread where we can get critques and feedback. I hate posting images and no one says anything. I'm okay with criticism as long as it's fair. I want responses!

how do we get that happening?

You should've received it, you are on the email list.

If it me, and i had a piece I wanted some help with, I'd start a discussion thread, post the work you want to be critiqued and specify exactly what your looking for, ask a bunch of questions, basically kick the critique off... that will put people at ease because you've given them a context in which to discuss your work, so they don't have jump to conclusions or assume anything.

Then give it time, it still a little slow around here.

You might try deviantArt or linked in, but I haven't had any luck getting anything helpful. The pros and semi-pros are busy and the people who have time to respond either gush or miss the point

No problem about the newsletter or the "unsubscribe" message (i didn't see the other more aggressive messages), though yes, the BCC option for email addresses is a great idea!

Yea I got it fine! Just didn't see any replies to it.

I paid, (gladly) seven bucks to promote the League up on facebook remember?

But I was handsomely rewarded with some awesome comics so I"m not complaining!

I was making jests last night, looks like my post fell flat.

I think that's something I'll give a shot.

I think I was concerned about double posts. But if no one objects to it then I'll proceed in that manner.

What I mean by double posts is: I post an image in the daily sketch thread, (me personally I'm interested in what people think about it before I elaborate honestly). I want to know their initial response to something I'm working on.
Esp. in the early stages so then I can look out for things as I move forward. I'd hate to get to a finished piece and then have to retrograde because of flaws that I may have missed in the early stages.

Then I guess I can start a thread with whichever image in question and provide the necessary context to engage in a discussion/critique.

I think I'll go with that format.

Don't worry about double posts, we've got plenty of room.

Joe, are you also 'Admin'? I've often suspected that was the case but never knew for sure.

As for the guy who flipped out over the newsletter, it sounds like the dude's got bigger problems than an e-mail.

I never understood people who get pissed off about junkmail, whether email or snail. Phone solicitorors? Yeah that I understand, it's intrusive. It's a phone ringing. But you can go through mail at your leisure, how else are businesses supposed to attract new people if they can't send email and junkmail?

Yep, But it's just for show mostly. I use it for official stuff only. I try not do too much while logged into that account it has all the permissions and access to everything, I could accidentally delete everything with one keystroke. Plus my iphone is synced up with the joe lee account, so I can only access the admin account when I'm in my office

HOLY SHIT!

This guy won't let it go.

He just sent another email out bitchin' about this. Did any of you guys get it?

I took him off the mailing list just like everyone else who asked. I even deleted him from the list he signed up on the first place. What more does this guy want? I made a stupid mistake and didn't do the blind copy thing, I'M SORRY! I'm new at this, let it go.

It was one stupid email, sent to a bunch of nice people but this asshole is now accusing me of exposing everyone's identities...

For those of you who do not know, this is the way in which spam email lists are created. Obviously a malicious person could simple copy each of our addresses and do with it what they would. That was not my choice, but to Reply All was.

What a freaking nutjob. With a lot of free time.

Yeah, this guy has deliberately spammed everybody on that email's mailing list what, two or three times or more now, all because of ONE EMAIL? I would think he's got his revenge by now. Such as it is.

A single short email, a newsletter inviting him to visit our little online clubhouse, and he responds this way? He must have a freakin' total meltdown if he get's a bad haircut or he gets cut off in traffic.

Craziness. He's not a bad illustrator though. Kids books. No shit.

Jesus Christ, I wonder what happens when he gets invited to someone's birthday.

But on a more serious note, give me his e-mail address and I'll sign him up for all sorts of nasty porn websites.

Jim, he didn't copy you on his email today? I thought all the registered members were on the same list this guy was on. Maybe he cut his mailing down to those who responded to him. I swear from his earlier emails, it sounded like he blamed the whole mailing list for his having been sent the email. Paranoid bastard. No no, all these people conspired to send you an invitation, and they copied themselves on it! ALL WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION! He's big on that permission thing. affraid

I just discovered a moment ago that (for some reason?) all League e-mails were going into my Junk folder. I'm since remedied that.
