When I was a kid, Kirby was THE FF artist, Jim Aparo was THE Batman artist , Curt Swan was THE Superman artist and Herb Trimpe was THE Hulk artist...

I first "encountered" Herb Trimpe art in Shogun Warriors, much to my delight. I next found his work in reprints of Incredible Hulk in Marvel Super-Heroes (usually inked by Marie Severin). Fun stuff.

Sad to read about his passing.

What a long and great career for Mr. Trimpe! While his Hulk was not my personal number one fave, because that spot could only be occupied by King Kirby, I believe the current CGI Hulk in Avengers movies owes the most to his interpretation of the Green Goliath. Fortunately, he lived to see the first blockbuster film. While I don't know if any actual money exchanged hands, I have to believe that his heart swelled considerably to have his vision displayed to something like a billion people. Rest in peace, Mr. Trimpe.

i loved that comic, and Godzilla too. Great fun.

Anyone get those giant sized Hulk treasuries, the larger reprints? I loved seeing art like his reprinted in the larger format. And didn't one reprint the whole Counter Earth saga? I seem to remember one with the glob, golem and havok.

Some of those pages, many of those Panels even, could easily be enlarged to wall sized art and stand up to anything Lichtenstein stole.
