PostSubject: Atom beats Ant Man   Atom beats Ant Man Icon_minitimeMon Jul 07, 2014 2:04 pm

Looks like The Atom will be on screens way before AntMan, despite the many years of development. This is the second gut punch for the long-time-no-see AntMan film, as it just lost it's director recently as well. Didn't Edgar Wright start working on Ant Man way back when Iron Man ONE was still out?

Anyway, former Superman Brandon Routh has just been cast to play Ray Palmer on Arrow. For a show that wasn't going to use many super powers, they sure have come a long way. First the Flash now a high profile star cast as the Atom. At the same time DC comics seems to be expanding onto live action TV with four new shows in addition to the third season of Arrow. Is it just coincidence or is DC thinking about another spin-off here?

DC kinda owes Routh something. Tapped to be the new Superman, then oops sorry you didn't suck, but enough of your movie did, we are going to do a total reboot instead of a sequel/remake/resurrection. I wonder if Routh has a Henry Cavill picture on a dartboard in his office?

The Atom is lame. Oldschool. But so is Antman. Why not some cooler characters or do some cool shows like Lobo, Swampthing or Doom Patrol.

i've always liked both, Ant Man and The Atom.

I loved the old animated Atom shorts when i was a kid, especially the ones with the JLA, when Atom would always be standing on someones shoulder.

Hank and Jan were always two of my favorite characters, but I've been horrified at how the characters have been treated by Marvel lately. Only one of the reasons i stopped reading Marvel comics. But was pretty hopeful about the movie despite much of the leaked info.

It sounds like they movie will be based on the two issue story from Marvel Premiere by John Byrne, where Scott Lang steals the Ant Man suit from Pym, but movie Pym will be much older. Michael Douglas was on Letterman sporting a goatee that would do Green Arrow proud. He said it was for Ant Man.

Yeah that's one of the coolest superpowers, being small enough to stand on some guy's shoulder. Almost as cool as being able to take the form of a bucket of water.  No

Ha! You have obviously never seen the episode of Harvey Birdman where they show a flashback of Zan taking the form of Wonder Woman's bathwater.

https://uk.yahoo.com/movies/ant-man-edgar-wright-may-have-left-but-it-still-95101665226.html

Well, that article-writer seems optimistic about the Ant-Man movie. I hope he's right.

http://deadline.com/2014/07/comic-con-edgar-wright-still-in-insect-mode-on-sonys-grasshopper-jungle-809899/

Edgar Wright also seems to have landed on his feet, with at least two other movies that he is scheduled to direct: "Grasshopper Jungle" based on a book by that name, and "Baby Driver" for which he has already written his own script. So that dulls some of the pain of him not doing Ant-Man.

I guess it is for the best, considering all my anxiety about whether Wright would be able to work within the Marvel studio system. As it happened, he could not. But at least they figured that out quickly, before getting too far into production. So now whatever movie gets made, we will always know that it was Marvel's movie, and we won't be wondering, how much of this is Wright, and how much is studio meddling?

In the interview, Brandon Routh mentioned in an interview how his "suit" for his part as Ray Palmer on Arrow, is totally different than the one for Superman Returns, leaving fans to believe he will be in costume as the Atom, despite Routh consistently being referred to Ray Palmer, and never, Ray Palmer/Atom. One comment mentions that Ted Kord/Blue Beetle may have been the original choice before the Atom, back when the powers ban was in effect.

I'm reslly looking forward to Arrow and Flash, but Gotham starts next week!

I'm not so much caring about Antman or The Avengers anymore, with all the story changes. Stark invents Ultron, etc, and I just read somewhere that Jarvis becomes the Vision?!?

No affraid No affraid No spoilers No affraid No affraid No

Yaeh but the changes make sense. And it's not all changed from the comics. From what Iread it's supposed to be something like Stark invents Ultron, instead of Pym, and they are like the unmanned drones from in Iron Man 2, invented by Mickey Rourke's character (who if you remember accused Stark and his dad of stealing ideas from his dad, and here Tony takes another idea from him). Ultron works great but gets smart and sentience and gets bad, then creates the Vision, like he did in the comics, (but probably not from the corpse of the Original Human Torch), and he uses Jarvis instead of Simon Williams as a brain. The changes all seem to fit with the movie continuity much better than introducing new characters like Hank Pym, Wonder-Man, and the Original Torch. And they might still have Pym be involved, with his movie in production, Whedon wouldn't be above making a cameo or even a few scenes with Pym being involved in the Ultron project, maybe even being involved in the AI.

Yeah he was awesome, he brought a lot of fun to the show so far. looking forward to tonight.

I gotta say DC is doing really well with all it's shows. Gotham is amazing, Flash and Arrow are great fun. But the second season of "Marvel's" Agents of SHIELD is still all kinds of bleh. It was nice to see the AbsorbingMan but the show over all is still a little directionless, and kinda on the boring side without a movie tie-in. I'm sure I'll keep watching for the occasional ok episode, and I'll keep hoping it'll get more interesting. I think it's suffering from some of the some issues Whedon had on Dollhouse. He's got a long term plan, with a great pay-off but getting there is tough sometimes.

I agree pretty much, but Arrow is still pissing me off doing the same "I can't love you, Lana, not with this life I've chosen," that Smallville did for way too many seasons. I mean come on already, Arrow is even worse, Felicity isn't going to be more safe by just looking at her across the room longingly instead of kissing her, she's already in danger by helping you out. My guess is they needed a reason to get her to develop feelings for Ray Palmer, so they can do the same love triangle thing from Smallville.

Flash has been fun so far, I like John Wesley Shipping as Barry's dad, but the "Grodd" cage was my favorite bit so far. But some stuff has been annoying, they seem to be setting up their own mutant of the week problem that Smallville had. Just substitute extra dimension time lightening for the kryptonite. SPOILER... And I was a little annoyed they brought in two of Metamorpho's supporting staff to just kill them in the same episode. But I like where I think the larger story arcs are going.

Gotham really surprised me. Very good so far. The guy playing the Penguin is killing it!

I like the new regulars. They keep trying to make it more rooted in the Marvel U, by having one character be a descendant of a Howling Commando, and they did a nice WWII flashback. But I agree DC is doing a better job with their shows, but that may be purposely. It could be they are trying to focus on a more mainstream audience. Which seems counter intuitive, making the movies more comicbookie is why they work.
