Yes, I think it is good that Miracleman, the Alan Moore/Neil Gaiman years, are finally, really, going to come back into print. It's just been way too long for this material to have sat on the shelf.

I have all the Moore issues already, but not the Gaiman issues, so I may just collect this new printing from the start, hoping that whatever extras they add in make it worth my while. I hope the new color and lettering don't bug me too much, so I'll try to keep an open mind.

I hope that every creator gets paid properly this time (or that money gets assigned where they wish it to go, to Mick Anglo or his heirs or whomever). I assume that the lengthy delay in getting this book out means that they have spent adequate time getting permissions from everyone, and proper signed contracts, and so on.

There has been some internet kerfuffle about Alan Moore taking his name off of the books and the promotions for the books. He will be referred to only as "The Original Writer." Sure, it's a bit silly and potentially confusing to newcomers, but I think we should all be used to it by now. He's Alan Moore, taking his name off of his own works is just something he does nowadays. It won't hurt the ability of library catalogers to file him correctly, and that's my primary concern:

If he employed the traditional uncredited writer name used for films, 'Alan Smithee', he'd be halfway to taking credit. I kind of think this is actually close to being positive support for Marvel's publishing of Miracleman. At least it's as close as Alan Moore comes these days. I'm only going by his lack of negative reaction to this mind you, and as we all know, Moore is perfectly capable of excoriating a project when irked. Marvel says that all creators will be compensated, I think I read that in The Beat. If Moore was assured that compensation would include Mick Anglo's heirs, that would go a long way to assuaging him. That's a lot of 'ifs', but so far, I really think Marvel has gone about this the right way. Whodathunk?! I buy only 4 or 5 comics a year these days, but if they're not drastically overpriced, this could change that.

Oh, yes, my understanding (from various articles and interviews) is that Moore does indeed approve of this printing, as long as his name is not on it, and he wants the money due him to go to Mick Anglo or his heirs instead.

There is a little bit of ambiguity, in that he said he wanted the money from the "first" printing to go to Anglo (who was still alive at that time), possibly leaving the option of Moore getting paid for subsequent printings or editions or collections or whatever. But hopefully that ambiguity has been resolved behind the scenes and not left as a possible source of future problems.

Good to hear that scenario further confirmed, Peter. It's always been my take that Moore is not so much prickly or even difficult, it's just that he insists on being treated fairly and that's by his own definition of fairness.

If they can get far enough that Neil Gaiman will resume the story, Mike McKone [sp?] will be the artist. He attended Wizard World Nashville and I made sure to stop by his table because he was one of the few artists I'd heard of - although I can't for the life of me think of where I've seen his work, and none of the titles he'd mentioned rung a bell - and anyway, his portfolio of art-for-sale included a Miracleman piece. And I had to ask what the hell he was doing selling a Miracleman piece. It was reasonably dramatic and looked quite good, as well as being reminiscent of Totleben, Buckingham and the other artists. He told me about the return of Miracleman - not knowing I had already launched this thread - and laughed when he mentioned previous attempts to sell it came along with the deal that you can't show the art or talk about it for six months if you buy it. Looks nice though.

Between this, Stan Lee and Neal Adams encounters, you really made the most of Wizard World Nashville, well done!
