Hated Thor after-movie credits scene, well the first one anyway. But the second one was cool.

The movie was awesome. Better than the first one. Walt Somonson got credit for villain, but Kirby was credited after Larry Lieber?

We saw it this weekend, had trailers for both Captain America The Winter Soldier, and X-Men Days of Future Past,

Sounds like I have to see this one sooner rather than later! That is a little weird about Larry Leiber. I never thought of him as a major contributor to Thor's creation, but he is credited with scripting, but not plotting, the first nine Marvel Thor stories though. I guess Stan is willing to share credit after all, as long as it is with his own brother. Mr. Leiber does deserve a big payday for all his Marvel work, I hope he got one with this.

Don't get me wrong Kirby was in there twice...

First credit:

"Based on the comic books by Stan Lee, Larry Leiber, Jack Kirby"

Then the second time was some "...special thanks to:

Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Larry Lieber, Walt Simonson..."

It went by pretty fast, and don't forget there are two after movie, credits scenes. One with a cool old marvel villain and one after all the credits that was truly awesome

Forgot to stay for the second one. Send me an email about it!

There's a quick cameo from both Stan and a character from the Avengers, that made me laugh anyway.

It wasn't that big a deal, just a quick gag, a call back to something earlier in the film. It was funny.

Someone at the LCS said that Thor2 was exactly what they hoped and expected from Man of Steel. Thor2 didn't have nearly the destruction of MOS, but it had some similar elements of a classic Superman story. Including the comic relief sidekicks that were completely missing from MOS. And Loki was great fun, just like Lex should be. The ever-present arch nemesis, that's a part of the supporting cast despite whatever villain is there.

I'll give Marvel credit, when it comes to superheroes they know their characters and the audience much better  than DC seems to.

It's not a secret that the events of Thor 2 will bleed over into Agents of Shield tv series. I'm all in favor of that because for the most part the Marvel movies have been pretty darn good and set the stage for further stories. Without needing major spoilers or anything, does Shield or even the tv version & characters play any part in Thor 2?

Yeah, next episode us supposed to have an artifact from Thor, and previous episodes, including the pilot, had made use of the Extremis thing from Ironman3

The second after credits scene is actually two scenes, one right after another. So there are:

some credits
Scene 1
more credits
Scene 2.1
Scene 2.2

Scene 1 is a teaser for future movies.

Scene 2.2 is "just a quick gag, a call back to something earlier in the film," as Joe says.

But if you missed scene 2.1, you missed the whole ending of the movie. I recommend going back and seeing it again.

Joe, good points about how Thor got right what Man of Steel got wrong. I totally agree.

OMG

I forgot that bit! Oops

You're right that was a pretty significant, I can't believe I spaced on that.

I just read the director was pissed about the first scene that he didn't direct himself. The "teaser for future films" I'd guess it might be the Guardians of the Galaxy since the next Avengers is about Ultron.

Finally got around to seeing Thor's second movie outing and all the positive indicators from you guys proved accurate. It was a lot of fun! Really, the comic book elements were accomplished as well as I could imagine being possible. While the film's no heavyweight, it was by turns comical, suspenseful, exhilarating and with plenty of over the top Kirbyesque action without trying too hard to match that style. In fact, I liked the action parts much better than Iron Man 3, where a particular capability of the parts of Iron Man's armor is shown so many times it completely loses its appeal (you all know what I'm referring to) Hard to imagine, anyone better than Hemsworth in the title role either. In fact, I have only one complaint with the film. Volstagg -- not fat enough! Actually, it was so cool that the Warriors Three got that much air time, I retract even that quibble.

I think I could be very happy if the next one were to have The Enchantress and the Executioner, Ego the Living Planet, Hercules or Beta Ray Bill. Or any combination of two or more.

Or even if the film just opened up with Thor arriving on a crime scene/answering some police call to thwart some villain like the Absorbing Man, Grey Gargoyle, RadioactiveMan, Mr. Hyde or the Wrecking Crew. (And it wouldn't bother me if the crime were to be something like stealing some sciency thing, full of cosmic crackling spheres, from  the Kirby Institute for Cosmic Energy Research...

Absolutely! One of the best things about the marvel movies is when they sample from the rich Marvel Universe. I mean, it seems so obvious, but we've both seen book to film properties where the first thing done is to completely remove it from its source material. And that's what they're missing (sometimes) in the Agents of Shield series. I think the series succeeds more when it seems to be planted firmly in the MU and less when it's not. I know that many Marvel characters are not available for their use. I'm not sure they are even allowed to use the word 'mutant' for legal reasons, but c'mon there's only a billion concepts and characters left they could play with.

Rambling aside anyway, I agree that if the quality is kept up, Thor should easily become a long running franchise without becoming repetitive or needing an origin reboot every three years.
